Independence day celebrated

The 70th year of Independence was celebrated in UTC with flag hoisting at 7:30 A.M. followed by morning worship in the Charles Ranson Hall. The worship included colourful and meaningful programmes by students and community members from different parts of India. P.K. Abdul Rehman, Professor, University of Madras spoke about the need of a free and independent India where all communities respect one another. All members of the community actively participated in the flag hoisting and worship service.

This refers to the publication in the press and media with regard to a programme on broken families of Kashmir organized by Amnesty International in the premises of the United Theological College in the evening of 13th August 2016.

The administration of the United Theological College, hereby wish to clarify that the UTC is not at all responsible and in no way connected with either the issue or the sponsors of the programme; except for renting out the premises for rent. There was no participation on the part of the students or the teaching fraternity of the UTC in this private programme.

We hereby also affirm that the 106 year old UTC had never been and shall never be a party to issues that would go against the interests and the integrity of the nation and the sentiments of the people. The UTC always stood for secular values of our nation in true letter and spirit. The UTC is cooperating with the police officers of the JC Nagar Police Station and deeply appreciates their presence in maintaining law and order around the vicinity.

The UTC hereby requests you to kindly make known our stand to the public and oblige in the best interest of all concerned.

Rev. Dr. Chilikuri Vasantha Rao elected principal of the UTC


The Rev. Dr. Chilikuri Vasantha Rao was elected the principal of the United Theological College by the UTC Council in the Annual General Meeting held yesterday, August 11, 2016. Dr. Vasantha Rao was the former principal of the ACTC, Hyderabad and has held various posts. He belongs to the CSI Medak diocese. He will take charge on October 1, 2017.

Lecture on Body and Bhakti by Dr. George Pati


A lecture on "Body and Bhakti: Narrative and Performance of Love in Kerala" by Dr. George Pati, professor of South Asian Religions and International Studies at the Valparaiso University, Indiana, USA, was held today at the Ziegenbalg chapel of the UTC. The lecture was conducted by the Department of Religions of the UTC.

Dr. George Pati based his talk on poet Kumaran Asan's poem Nalini written in 1911 and the Krishnattam performance in the Guruvayoor temple, Kerala. Rev. Densingh Oliver, the acting chairperson of the Department of Religion presided over the lecture and gave opening and closing remarks.
